Own the most famous pennies of them all...

At a recent auction we were extremely fortunate to secure a limited number of ‘Cartwheel’ Pennies, and today you have the opportunity to add this unusual British coin to your collection.

The 1797 one penny was issued as part of an attempt to restore confidence in British currency, by making the nominal value of the coin equal to the metal value.

Nicknamed 'Cartwheels'

The high metal content made these coins significantly heavier and larger than other circulating coinage struck before or since. And because of their huge size and unusual raised rim, they picked up the now infamous nicknameCartwheels’.

It is highly unusual for a low denomination coin to have such a substantial size and weight, and unsurprisingly they are in high demand from collectors because of their status as Britain’s largest and heaviest penny.

These coins are now over 200 years old, its very unlikely we will be able to secure anymore.
