100 Years of QEII: Official UK 2026 Queen Elizabeth II Raphael Maklouf £5 Coin

2026 marks 100 years since the birth of Queen Elizabeth II. To honour this historic centenary, The Royal Mint continues its prestigious Portraits of a Queen series – a five-coin collection celebrating the official effigies that appeared on UK coinage throughout Her Late Majesty’s extraordinary reign.

The third release in the collection features Raphael Maklouf’s refined portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, introduced on circulating coins in 1985. Created from live sittings granted by the Queen, Maklouf’s effigy captures a highly stylised and dignified image of the monarch. Instantly recognisable, it became a defining portrait for collectors during the late 20th century.

Now, remastered by Gordon Summers, Chief Engraver at The Royal Mint, the design has been faithfully restored to share with a new generation of collectors.

• Showcases the Raphael Maklouf portrait of Queen Elizabeth II
• Struck to Brilliant Uncirculated standard
• Presented in official Royal Mint packaging with insight into this iconic effigy

Queen Elizabeth II coins continue to be among the most collected worldwide, and this centenary series is expected to attract significant interest. With its premium finish and elegant remastering, this £5 coin is not only a celebration of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, but also a piece of history to treasure and share for generations.
