2026 marks 100 years since the birth of Queen Elizabeth II, and The Royal Mint continues its Portraits of a Queen £5 coin series with the fourth release, featuring Ian Rank-Broadley’s iconic portrait of Her Late Majesty.
Introduced on UK circulating coinage in 1998, Rank-Broadley’s effigy presented a more realistic and dignified depiction of the Queen, inspired by historic coinage traditions. Elegant and authoritative, the portrait became one of the defining images of the monarch during the later years of her reign.
Now, remastered by Gordon Summers, Chief Engraver at The Royal Mint, the design has been carefully refined for this historic centenary edition.
Struck in Sterling Silver to the highest Proof standard, this prestigious Piedfort edition is double the thickness and weight of the standard Silver Proof coin, enhancing the sculpted detail and finish.
