This year marks the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain – a defining moment in our nation’s history. From July to October 1940, the skies above Britain became the frontline, with a courageous band of pilots standing alone between the nation and invasion.

To honour their extraordinary bravery, a brand-new set of five Silver 50p coins has been issued in partnership with the Royal Air Force. Each one struck from Sterling Silver to a pristine Proof Finish:

• Spitfire Attack – The aircraft that became a symbol of defiance, shown in flight
• Squadron Scramble – Four RAF pilots sprinting across the airfield, answering the call to defend Britain

• Eric Lock – The RAF’s top scoring pilot of the Battle, remembered for his heroism and skill
