The 'Series D' £5 and £50 Silver Banknotes

Celebrate a defining chapter in British currency with this Series D Silver Banknote Pair, featuring fine silver reproductions of the iconic Series D £5 and Series D £50 banknotes.

'Series D' refers to the Bank of England notes issued from 1970-1994.

Notable for being the first to feature historical figures on the reverse, designed by Harry Eccleston, they were also among the first to consistently feature a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the front.

These notes became the foundation for contemporary British banknote design and remained in circulation for many years.

The £5 became one of the most familiar notes in everyday use, while the £50 represented one of the highest denominations in circulation.

Your Pair Includes:

  • The first Series D £5 note, issued on 11 November 1971, the original featured the 1st Duke of Wellington, alongside a scene from the Battle of Salamanca.

  • The first Series D £50 note, issued on 20 March 1981. Originally, it showed Sir Christopher Wren, with a view of St Paul’s Cathedral from the River Thames.

With strictly limited availability, this pair offers a distinguished way to preserve an important piece of Britain’s monetary heritage.
